Acrylic on canvas

I started this painting back in the summer of 2024. I wasn’t super satisfied with it, so I shelved it. Then, a couple years later, I dug it out of storage and finally finished it. I think it can be super helpful to shelve a painting when you have artist’s block – I find it’s helpful to just move on to a different project rather than struggling through the block. For this reason, I usually have a few different paintings I’m working on simultaneously – when I’m feeling uninspired with one, I jump to another; if I’m uninspired with all of them, I just start a new painting. When I have too many projects going at once, I’ll shelve the ones I’m the least motivated to work on – this typically involves me storing them in a stolen Papa John’s bag I keep in my closet, or storing them at my parents house. Then, after time passes, I go through my stored paintings. This allows me to see them with fresh eyes and get new ideas – or, alternatively, I’m still uninspired; in which case, I have a “pre-primed” canvas ready for me to paint over.
