As a kid, I was obsessed with Greek Mythology. After visiting Europe for the first time in college, I started to re-engage with the myths of my childhood. I re-read a ton of Greek myths throughout the summer of 2023 – as an adult, I saw them with fresh eyes. There were all kinds of layers and subtext to the myths that went over little Kellen’s head – I was also able to read some of the original texts, rather than the simplified/paraphrased versions put in mythology books targeted at kids. At one point in the summer, I finally got around to reading Oedipus Rex by Aechylus. That play was the inspiration for this piece.
