One of the most difficult things about art is knowing when to stop. It’s very easy to either underwork or overwork an art piece. Working quickly can inject a painting with raw, punk energy – but it can also just look sloppy and rushed. Spending a lot of time on a painting, precisely dialing-in every aspect, can be result in mind-blowing works of art – but it can also result in sterile, lifeless paintings. Finding a balance can be tricky and its always case-dependent. Some of my paintings take weeks of effort and dedication – others take 15 mins. This painting took me less than 30 mins – but, I honestly love the raw simplicity of it and I think adding more would’ve made the piece worse.
