I made this piece for my drawing class. Our assignment was to replicate a photo accurately. I decided to use a photograph I took of my friend playing piano. The photo was taken with a long exposure, so there are cool light-trails and ghosting throughout the image. My friend was also wearing a very elaborate jacket, covered in spikes and pins and patches – these helped add to the light-trails. I think the drawing turned out well – I like that it’s kind of hard to tell what’s happening, especially since the assignment was to just copy a photograph (boring…). I also like how the ghosting adds a lot of visual energy to the piano playing.
