This piece was my first time experimenting with mediums. This painting was intended to be a birthday gift for my mom, and she is a huge fan of Van Gogh and the post-Impressionists. In order to make something in that style, I needed thick, impasto brushstrokes. So, I bought a sculpting medium, which allowed me to get thick brushstrokes with acrylic paint. I ended up using most of the container on this one painting – it had a really cool effect, but it’s not something I can afford to do for every painting.
