This is a portrait of Kanye West I made in 2019. At the time, I wanted to make a companion piece to Peace…. In that painting, we have a peaceful Buddha letting go and melting into a fluid universe. I wanted to create an opposing painting and hang them side-by-side as a juxtapostion. So, I decided to paint someone famously egotistical (Kanye) and have a loud, geometric, protruding background. I stopped hanging this one a couple of years ago (I don’t really want Nazis on my wall), but I think it still works well as a painting, particularly when paired with the Buddha.
