This is the first finished painting I ever made on my own. I helped my dad on some paintings when I was young, and I had painted a lot in school – but, I hadn’t ever just sat down to make something on my own. At this time, I was starting to take art more seriously, dedicating more time to drawing/doodling. I had done a lot of painting the previous year in my art class, which gave me some confidence to dive into the medium more. I had also been watching a ton of Bob Ross videos at the time to help me sleep, so I knew some basic techniques for nature/landscape painting. After I went and saw the film At Eternity’s Gate about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, I felt really inspired to paint. So, I finally sat myself down and made this painting. Being my first “real” painting, it has a lot of sentimental value to me – but, I also still think it’s just a solid painting on its own.
