I created this piece as the final project of my freshman-year art class. The assignment was to make an end-of-year portfolio. I decided to collage a series of my artworks into one project. The centerpiece is an acrylic painting of David Bowie on cardboard – making this painting taught me how to paint realistic/recognizable portraits, a skill I continue to use often. The border is constructed from a series of smaller, mostly abstract, artworks I made in-class throughout 2017-2018; these border pieces are a mix of watercolor, acrylic paint, colored pencil, and ink. This class ended up having a huge impact on my life – it was the first time I started to think of myself as a creative person and feel confident about what I was making. So, I’m grateful to have this portfolio piece as a memento of that time in my life.
