This piece was inspired by Portland in the summertime. I had an internship in the summer of 2023, so I spent most of that summer in Portland. It was my first Portland summer, and it blew me away. Portland can be grey and rainy for much of the year – but, in the summertime, it’s heaven on Earth. I spent the summer hiking and biking around Portland, seeing thousands of plants I didn’t even know existed. I started to develop a real obsession with flowers too (I have thousands of flower photos now haha). This piece was an attempt to capture some of those amazing Portland colors. I painted it outdoors, sitting on my porch during a gorgeous summer day.
