Acrylic on canvas

In the fall of 2023, I took an art history course that focused on Greco-Roman art. This particular painting was inspired by the work of Greek sculptor Polykleitos, who we dicussed extensively in class. Polykleitos believed that beauty could be reduced to certain mathematical ratios, and he mapped out the “ideal” proportions of a human body. Although I don’t subscribe to the notion of “ideal proportions”, I thought it would be fun to make a painting using his ratios. This piece also continues the series of Classically-inspired paintings I made throughout 2023.
